POEM OF THE PROPHET'S MANTLE
The Burdah poem, or “Poem of the Mantle,” was a famous poem written by Muhammad al-Busiri (d. 1265), based on the author’s mystical vision of the Prophet Muhammad. This highly decorated manuscript, which includes the poem and a commentary, was copied in Jerusalem by one of the most famous lexicographers of the medieval Arab world, Muhammad al-Fairuzabadi (d. 1414). Al-Fairuzabadi was the author of the Comprehensive Dictionary (“al-qamus al-muhit”), which was the most widely used Arabic dictionary until the modern period. He copied the manuscript during the ten years he spent studying in Jerusalem, prior to 1362.
