Zweig was not attracted to the National Jewish movement led by his close patron Herzl. Yet in the crucial hour, upon dismantling his house in Salzburg in 1933, Zweig chose to send his papers to the Library of the still nascent Jewish state, which was located in Jerusalem and became The National Library of Israel.
